Use this when Bluesky will not connect, or a post is blocked before it can publish. Bluesky connects from Settings, then Socials. The card is labeled Bluesky and shows a Beta badge. The connection uses your Bluesky handle and an app password, not the password you use to sign in to Bluesky.
Open Settings and select Socials.
Select Connect platforms if nothing is connected yet, or Connect accounts if a channel has been connected before.
A window opens. It first says Connecting to Ayrshare…. Ayrshare is the service that completes the Bluesky connection. Seeing that name is expected.
The window asks for your Bluesky handle and a Bluesky app password. Create that app password in Bluesky first, then paste it into the window. Do not enter the password you use to sign in to Bluesky.
While the window is open, Socialbud shows Waiting for connection…. When it succeeds, Bluesky appears on Socials with a Connected badge and the account name.
The first time you select Bluesky on a post, Socialbud says Bluesky is in Beta. Choose I understand, continue to keep it selected, or Cancel to leave it off.
In Bluesky, open Settings, then Privacy and security, then App passwords, and create an app password. Copy it when Bluesky shows it.
In Socialbud, open Settings, then Socials, and select Connect accounts.
In the window, enter the handle from your Bluesky profile, such as name.bsky.social, and paste the app password into Bluesky App Password. Then submit the form.
Close the window and check that Bluesky says Connected on Socials.
On a post, select Bluesky and confirm I understand, continue the first time.
Allow pop-up windows for Socialbud. If a new window cannot open, the connection page opens in the same tab.
Only an owner or a manager of the Socialbud account can connect or disconnect Bluesky.
Publishing has to be included in the plan before Bluesky can be connected.
The app password is not your Bluesky sign-in password. It is a separate code, usually in the form xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Bluesky shows it once. If you leave the page before copying it, create a new one.
During authorization, the window lists the app as Ayrshare, not Socialbud.
The Beta badge means publishing can still have issues. After a post goes out, check Bluesky and confirm it is really there. If it is not, contact [email protected].
Bluesky accepts text, a single image, a video, or a carousel of up to 4 images. The Story format in Content is not offered. If Bluesky is the only connected channel, a story says None of your connected platforms support this post format.
The caption can be up to 300 characters. An image can be up to 1 MB. A video can be up to 180 seconds (3 minutes).
A video also needs a confirmed email address on the Bluesky account. Image and text posts do not ask for that.
Turn off a VPN or an ad blocker if the window fails to load, then try again.
Bluesky will not connect. Check the handle from your Bluesky profile, and paste an app password, not the password you use to sign in to Bluesky. Then select Connect accounts again.
The card says Reconnect required, or a published post fails because access changed. Select Connect accounts and enter the handle with a current app password. If you deleted that app password in Bluesky, create a new one first.
You see "The post is too long for Bluesky (max 300 characters)." Shorten the caption. The post can also offer Shorten for Bluesky.
You see "Bluesky supports a maximum of 4 images per post." Remove images until 4 or fewer remain.
You see "Bluesky has a 1 MB image size limit. Reduce the image file size to publish to Bluesky." Use a smaller image, then try again.
You see "Bluesky supports videos up to 180 seconds. Trim the video to publish to Bluesky." Shorten the video, then try again.
You see "Bluesky requires a confirmed email address before it will accept video uploads. Please verify your Bluesky account's email, then try again." Open Bluesky, confirm the email on that account, then publish the video again.
You see Waiting for connection… after you already closed the window. Give it a few seconds. Socialbud is still checking the result.
Why does the window ask for an app password? Bluesky does not use a normal sign-in for this connection. The app password lets Socialbud post without your Bluesky sign-in password.
Why does the window mention Ayrshare? Socialbud uses Ayrshare to complete the Bluesky connection. The channel still appears as Bluesky in Socialbud.
Why is there a Beta badge? Bluesky is still in testing. The first time you select it on a post, choose I understand, continue. After publishing, check the post on Bluesky.
