Troubleshooting: TikTok

Fix TikTok connection problems and posts that will not publish.

Overview

Use this when TikTok will not connect, or a post is blocked before it can publish. TikTok connects from Settings, then Socials. The card is labeled TikTok. A personal TikTok account or a business account can be linked.

How It Works

  1. Open Settings and select Socials.

  2. Select Connect platforms if nothing is connected yet, or Connect accounts if a channel has been connected before.

  3. A window opens. It first says Connecting to Ayrshare…. Ayrshare is the service that completes the TikTok sign-in. Seeing that name is expected.

  4. Sign in to TikTok and approve every requested permission.

  5. While the window is open, Socialbud shows Waiting for connection…. When it succeeds, TikTok appears on Socials with a Connected badge and the account name.

  6. On a photo post, Visibility defaults to Public. The other choices are Private, Followers, and Friends. Extra settings sit under Advanced options.

Instructions

  1. In Socialbud, open Settings, then Socials, and select Connect accounts.

  2. In the window, sign in to TikTok and approve every requested permission.

  3. Close the window and check that TikTok says Connected on Socials.

  4. On a post, select TikTok and add a video or at least one image. A text-only post cannot be published.

  5. For a photo post, set Visibility if you do not want Public. Open Advanced options for Photo title, Save as draft, Disable comments, Branded content, Organic brand content, and Auto-add music.

  6. For a video, Advanced options also includes Disable duet and Disable stitch.

Tips & Notes

  • Allow pop-up windows for Socialbud. If a new window cannot open, the connection page opens in the same tab.

  • Only an owner or a manager of the Socialbud account can connect or disconnect TikTok.

  • Publishing has to be included in the plan before TikTok can be connected.

  • During authorization, TikTok lists the app as Ayrshare, not Socialbud.

  • TikTok requires the connection to be approved again about once a year. When it stops working, select Connect accounts and approve TikTok again. Socialbud does not show a countdown.

  • TikTok accepts a video or images. The Story format in Content is not offered. If TikTok is the only connected channel, a story says None of your connected platforms support this post format.

  • A photo carousel can have up to 35 images. Each image can be up to 20 MB. A video can be up to 600 seconds (10 minutes). The caption can be up to 2,200 characters.

  • Followers only applies on a private TikTok account. On a public account, including a TikTok business account, TikTok still publishes the post so everyone can see it.

  • Save as draft sends the post to TikTok as a draft. It does not publish it on TikTok until you finish it there.

  • Turn off a VPN or an ad blocker if the TikTok window fails to load, then try again.

Troubleshooting

  • TikTok will not connect. Select Connect accounts again, sign in, and approve every permission. Allow pop-up windows if the window never opens.

  • The card says Reconnect required, or a published post fails because access changed. Select Connect accounts and approve TikTok again. Do this as well when the yearly approval has lapsed.

  • You see "TikTok requires a video or images. Add media to publish to TikTok." Add a video or at least one image, then try again.

  • You see "The post caption is too long for TikTok (max 2,200 characters)." Shorten the caption. The post can also offer Shorten for TikTok.

  • You see "TikTok Photo supports a maximum of 35 images per carousel." Remove images until 35 or fewer remain.

  • You see "TikTok has a 20 MB per-image size limit. Reduce the image file size to publish to TikTok." Use a smaller image, then try again.

  • You see "TikTok supports videos up to 600 seconds (10 minutes). Trim the video to publish to TikTok." Shorten the video, then try again.

  • You see "TikTok is still processing this video — publishing will complete once it's ready." Wait. TikTok is still handling the video. Do not treat that message as a failed connection.

  • The post went out as public even though Visibility was Followers. The TikTok account is public. Followers only stays limited on a private account.

  • You see Waiting for connection… after you already closed the window. Give it a few seconds. Socialbud is still checking the result.

FAQ

Why does the window mention Ayrshare? Socialbud uses Ayrshare to complete the TikTok sign-in. The channel still appears as TikTok in Socialbud.

Do I need a TikTok business account? No. A personal account or a business account can be connected.

Why is there no Visibility control on a video? Visibility is shown on photo posts. Video settings are under Advanced options, including Disable duet, Disable stitch, and Save as draft.
